UK Energy Grants — FAQs
Quick answers about ECO4, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme and other support. Always subject to eligibility and property assessment.
What is ECO4?
ECO4 is a UK government energy-efficiency scheme that funds free boiler upgrades and insulation for low-income and vulnerable households. Eligible homes may qualify for a replacement boiler, insulation, or a first-time central heating system. Fairway Energy is an independent lead-generation service, not affiliated with the government.
Who qualifies for a free boiler?
You may qualify for a free boiler under ECO4 if you receive certain benefits, have a low income, or have health conditions made worse by cold. The boiler must also be old, faulty, or inefficient. Approval is subject to eligibility and property assessment.
What is the BUS grant amount?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) offers £7,500 toward an air-source or ground-source heat pump, £5,000 for biomass boilers, and £2,500 for air-to-air heat pumps. Eligible off-gas-grid homes may qualify for a £9,000 uplift until 31 March 2027. The EPC requirement was scrapped in April 2026.
Do I need benefits to qualify for energy grants?
Not always. ECO4 primarily targets benefit claimants, but the LA Flex route lets councils refer low-income or vulnerable households. You may qualify even without benefits, subject to eligibility and property assessment.
What is the Warm Home Discount?
The Warm Home Discount is a £150 annual discount on electricity bills for eligible low-income households. It runs alongside other support like ECO4.
How do I check eligibility for UK energy grants?
Use Fairway Energy's free eligibility check — answer a few questions about your home and heating. Approval is always subject to eligibility and property assessment.
Is Fairway Energy the government?
No. Fairway Energy is an independent lead-generation and eligibility-enquiry service — not the government, an official grant administrator, or an installer.
How long does ECO4 last?
ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026. Related support like the £9,000 off-gas-grid uplift and 0% VAT run until 31 March 2027.
